In a world where tuition fees for all stages of education are constantly increasing a new form of funding has entered the market: scholarships sponsored by celebrities. The times where stars only donated their money to charities are over. Rihanna, Nicki Minaj and Beyoné amongst many others have announced competition to win scholarships for school and college fees. Some of these projects are targeted at the whole world and others focus on specific minority groups to give them better chances in life. To name a few examples, Beyoncé awards four scholarships for college fees to women who want to study creative subjects to encourage women to think outside the box. Rihanna’s scholarships are targeted at citizens of Brazil, Barbados, Cuba, Haiti, Grenada, Guyana or Jamaica who were accepted into a US university and who show unusual family situations in their personal essays.
Apparently, the modern stars are more ready than ever to make a real difference in people’s lives.
