Bravo To Zero author Andy McNab is criticizing the education system. While in earlier days teachers paid attention to conveying the joy in reading to students there is no time for doing so left nowadays. By standardizing the education system and focusing on “box ticking” the teachers simply get no chance to stress the importance of reading books. After a long day at school, pupils seem to not have enough time left to engage in reading. This results in poor literacy skills by the time they leave school. Mr McNab says: “There is so much compulsory stuff in the curriculum that it becomes like ticking boxes.” According to the author the biggest flaw of the current system is the absence of enthusiasm for reading.
