A lack of training in terms of the right reaction when students are seeking help of teachers is one reason for these numbers. Students spend 6 hours a day on average at school. Hence, they experience being on their own for this amount of time every day.
A pupil suffering from depression and suicidal thoughts reports that she had no one to talk to at school and felt the teachers were even talking behind her back instead of supporting her through her hardship. 11% of students describe themselves as being unhappy with their lives. It is the authority’s responsibility to ensure that these students get the help they need.
