Today, on the first Thursday of March the annual World book day takes place. Every child in the United Kingdom and Ireland is given a voucher to be spent on books. However, only few people know that the original word book day takes place on the 23rd of April. This was changed in the UK to avoid clashes with Easter. Prime Minster Tony Blair launched the first world book day in 1998 in the Globe Theatre London. Back at this event, all children received a 1 Pound voucher which could be exchanged for any book in a UK book store. Thy English Academy celebrates world book day in particular since we always pay particular attention to literacy and the importance of reading. We believe most writing difficulties can be overcome by simply reading more. Children can broaden their horizon and dive into a different world by reading fantasy novels. This is an amazing learning opportunity that shouldn’t be underestimated.
